[October 2025: Marlton, NJ] GiR team led an exciting Robotics Build and Programming Workshop for Brownie Girl Scout Troop #95218 from Salem, NJ, introducing young learners to hands-on STEM session through robotics. The workshop brought together enthusiastic Brownie troop members to learn how robots are designed, built, and programmed. Working in small teams, the girls assembled LEGO Spike Prime robots and learned basic coding concepts to make their creations move and respond to sensors. They also participated in a fun robot driving experience, taking turns operating a full-sized FTC competition robot on the field. The session wrapped up with a demo of GiR’s DECODE season robot, where the Brownies helped load game artifacts and watched the robot score them into the goal.

Robotics Showcase & Info Session at Marlton Elementary School Science Fair, Marlton, NJ

[January 2025: Marlton, NJ] At the 2025 Marlton Elementary School Science Fair in New Jersey, Girls in Robotics (GiR) hosted a large-scale outreach event that engaged over 200 students and parents. The highlight of the showcase was an interactive driving experience where children ages 4 to 14 had the opportunity to control four FTC robots built by Team Outer Galaxy. Participants took part in a fun, customized robot challenge designed to spark creativity and teamwork. The team also presented an overview of the FIRST Robotics programs, explaining how students can get involved and enroll in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL). The event inspired young minds to explore STEM through hands-on learning and the thrill of real robot control.

Robot Demo, Showcase & Info Sessions at the FLL Qualifier Event (Cherokee High School, Marlton)

[February 2025: Marlton, NJ] At the 2025 FLL Qualifier Event held at Cherokee High School in Marlton, Girls in Robotics (GiR) hosted an exciting and interactive showcase that reached more than 350 students and parents. The team conducted live robot demonstrations, allowing students to experience the mechanics and programming behind competition-ready robots. Younger participants from FLL Explore enjoyed hands-on driving sessions, giving them a taste of what it’s like to control a real FTC robot on the field. GiR also organized information sessions to introduce families to the different levels of FIRST programs and guide interested students on how to get involved. The event created an inspiring bridge between early robotics learners and advanced competitors, fostering excitement and curiosity for STEM exploration across all ages.

All-Girls Robotics Workshop at Perpetual Succour Convent High School

[July 22-23, 2024: Navelim, India] On the second leg of our 3rd Annual India Summer Robotics Workshop series, GiR ran the 2-day workshop for the core team of 32 girls from Perpetual Succour High School in Navelim. The participating girls from grades 7 thru 10 did not have prior robotics experience but were otherwise high achieving students in academics at the school.

GiR gave an introduction to FIRST Tech Challenge based robotics build platforms i.e. goBilda and REV. Participants were divided into programming and build teams. Programming team enhanced the Saturn robot that was assembled from the NEHS workshop. What was remarkable with PCHS students is that these group of talented girls were able to independently program autonomous missions for the robot that included use of distance sensors. Build team on the other hand were able to build a second REV based robot from scratch and program it to make it operational. PCHS school was able to complete two fully functional robots at the end of the workshop. The third team built an arm mechanism to deliver the pixel into the target box. This team then added the arm onto the REV robot built by build team followed by testing its operation.

Core PCHS and GiR team demonstrated both the robots on the second day to the extended school students, teachers and parents that were invited for the robot showcase, demo and experience-the-bot session. GiR would like to express our gratitude to the school leadership especially Sr Liberata Fernandes for selecting highly motivated girls for this workshop and also for discipline and commitment to excel demonstrated by the participants.

Robotics Showcase and Demo by GiR at World STEM & Robotics Olympiad at Campal, India

[July 20, 2024: Campal Indoor Stadium, India] GiR-USA had a great time yesterday (July 20, 2024) showcasing one of our robots "SATURN" at the World STEM Robotics Olympiad at Campal (Goa,India). Many HS students from schools across Goa and few other Indian states got the experience of operating SATURN robot and execute the select mission tasks on the field. Thanks to New English High School for volunteering with GiR to demo and run an info exchange. 89 teams from various states in India competed in this event and GiR team were also volunteered to judge the line follower competition.
Please reach out to us through our facebook page or above email if your school is interested in participating in the GiR led hands-on robotics workshops in the future. These workshops are held free of cost every year in India. GiR is a non-profit organization from New Jersey USA - sponsored by Boeing, Bristol Myers Squibb, Gene Haas Foundation, Philips and 7 other companies.

2-day hands-on robotics workshop at New English High School (Keri, India)

[July 18-19, 2024: Keri, India] GiR conducted 2-day hands-on robotics workshop at New English High School on July 18-19, 2024. NEHS is located in the village of Keri on the mouth of Tiracol river in Pernem taluka. NEHS was one of the schools selected for 2024 India Summer GiR Initiative where students used three FIRST Tech Challenge robotics sets that were transported from the US to train the school students. Approx. 35 high school students participated in the core 2-day workshop where they designed, built and programmed REV and goBilda based robots. Around 300 students from grades 6 thru 10 participated in the presentation, demo and experience-the-bot session to conclude this event.

Two girls from NEHS school (Miss. Siddhi P and Miss. Devyani H) were selected as GiR Ambassadors where these girls joined GiR team to run an info exchange and demo showcase of GiR’s Saturn robot at World STEM Robotics Olympiad held at Campal, India on July 20. Overall this was a successful workshop at NEHS where students with no prior robotics experience were able to complete the assigned mission tasks in the two days. Programming team assembled the Saturn robot and finished the configuration tasks of all motors, sensors and servos. They were able to complete the programming of TeleOp mode in a stepwise approach using goBilda kit. Build team was able to build the frame of the chassis and one of the pixel delivery pivot arm using REV kit.

Introduction to Robotics and Competitive Robot Opportunities presentation at Rosary High School
“Observing students build the robot and coding its movement by understanding the weight, orientation, balancing, etc has been a great learning experience for me. I got the first-hand experience on the aspects that students ideally like to explore and the aspects that they haven’t but should have explored. For me, this experience will surely be a great help while working on the curriculum for 7th standard advanced course under Coding and Robotics in Schools Scheme launched by Government of Goa last year. Shruti and Nidhi has been extremely proactive and took great efforts to arrange the tools and guide the students during their short visit to India this year. I hope more from the community will come forward to guide our students in the years to come.” said Mrs. Kamat, School Computer Teacher from The Progress High School.

Uplifting High School Girls in West Kenya via STEM & Robotics

Most of the high school girls in Kenya do not have exposure to STEM and Robotics. Girls in Robotics team has been conducting workshops and providing ongoing guidance with support to a girls high school in West Kenya. We are also expanding our reach to other regions in Africa to connect with as many aspiring school students.
